Pantone’s color of the year 2022 is Very Peri, an inquisitive and intriguing color that captures the curiosity and creativity of the year ahead.
Very Peri has qualities of periwinkle blues with a violet-red undertone. A “rekindling gratitude for some of the qualities that blue represents complemented by a new perspective that resonates today, PANTONE Very Peri places the future ahead in a new light” says Pantone.
The result: a purply-blue, a color that is comparable to the color themes of the post-Y2K era, like bubblegum pinks, blues, purples and iridescent colors. It was a time of renewed optimism in technology, similar to where we are today.
The Pantone Color of the Year reflects what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that color can hope to answer.
As we weaved in and out of isolation the previous years, our ideas of physical and digital space have seeped, and even melded, into one another. We’ve seen exciting advancements in technology that show how the two spaces fuse together. We’ve seen growth in artificial and virtual reality, gaming technology and our ambition to embrace the metaverse. Very Peri is a response to where we are and how we want to move forward.
For the first time in Pantone’s history of the Color of the Year, they created a new color to capture how colors can communicate and express ideas and emotions. And Very Peri does just that, it’s a color that helps us understand and embrace the possibilities and perspectives that lie ahead.
The Pantone color of year Very Peri embodies that transition and journey into the digital world. That excitement and curiosity, that innovation and intrigue to explore and embrace the digital space and to expand our ideas of what our lives could be.
